Lugu Lake, located at the junction of Yangyuan County, Sichuan Province and Ninglang County, Yunnan Province, is under the joint jurisdiction of Sichuan and Yunnan, with Lugu Lake Township (formerly Zuosho District) in Yangyuan County to the east of the lake and Yongning Township in Ninglang County to the west of the lake. The lake is slightly north west a southeast direction, the lake area of 50.1 square kilometers, the lake reservoir capacity of 2.252 billion cubic meters.
Lugu Lake is a plateau fault dissolution trap lake, belongs to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River main stream Jinsha River tributary Yalong River tributary Litang River water system. It is the highest lake in Yunnan Province and the third largest deep-water lake in China. Around Lugu Lake mainly live Mosuo, Yi and Pumi people, and along the coast there are seven ethnic groups of Mongolian people, about 13,000 people. The beautiful natural environment and peculiar ethnic customs have made it a famous tourist attraction.
