The Ljiang Ancient City is located in the ancient district of Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, also known as Dayan Town, situated in the middle of Lijiang Dam, built in the late Song and early Yuan Dynasties (late 13th century AD), located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with an area of 7.279 square kilometers.
The streets in Lijiang Ancient City are built by the mountains and water, paved with red conglomerate, including Four Square Street, Mufu, Wufenglou, Heilongtan, Wenchang Palace, Wang Pi Zhen Memorial Hall, Xueshan Academy, Wangjiazhuang Christian Church, Fang Guoyu's former residence, Baima Longtan Temple, Gu Peter's former residence, Jinglian Temple, Puxian Temple, Jifenglou, October Literature Museum, Red Army Long March across Lijiang Command Memorial Hall, Lijiang Ancient City History and Culture Exhibition Hall, Lijiang Ancient City Xu Xiak Memorial Hall and other attractions. Lijiang is one of the second batch of approved historical and cultural cities in China, and is one of the two ancient cities in China that have been successfully declared as world cultural heritage with the whole ancient city.
The Lijiang Ancient City has colorful local ethnic customs and entertainment activities, such as Naxi ancient music, Dongba rituals, divination culture, ancient town bars and Naxi torch festival, which are unique. The ancient city of Lijiang embodies the achievements of ancient Chinese urban construction and is one of the types of Chinese dwellings with distinctive features and styles.
