简介
Daguan Lou Pavilion, located in Kunming City, Yunnan Province near the south of Huapu, is a wooden structure with triple eaves and glazed corners. In the 29th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1690), it was built by Governor Wang Jiwen. During Ganlong's reign, Sun Ranweng wrote a 180-word couplet for him, which was praised as "the world's first couplet". It was written and printed by famous scholar Lu Shutang. Mao Zedong commented on it as "unprecedented in ancient times, not creating a new style". The Grand View Building has become China's four famous buildings with the same reputation as the Yellow Crane Tower, Yueyang Tower and Stork Tower due to its long couplet. In the 8th year of Daoguang (1828), the Grand View Building was renovated and added to three floors. In the third year of Xianfeng (1853), Xianfeng Emperor inscribed the plaque "Pulling Waves and Melaleuca". In the seventh year of Xianfeng (1857), Changlian and Lou were destroyed by soldiers. It was rebuilt in the fifth year of Tongzhi (1866), and was rebuilt in the ninth year of Guangxu (1883). In the 14th year of Guangxu's reign (1888), Zhao Fan published and engraved long couplets in regular script. Grand View Building was announced as a key cultural relic protection unit in Yunnan Province in 1983 and as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2013 (the seventh batch).
