Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum was opened in September 1997, the old museum is located in the town of Jian Tang next to Yifu elementary school, covering a total area of 2338 square meters. 2007 September Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum moved to the city of Shangri-La County, Dukesong ancient city next to the Moonlight Square. At the beginning of 2009, the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum was assessed and announced by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage as a national tertiary museum.
